NFL Network’s ‘NFL Total Access Kickoff’ Notes & Quotes — Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans

NFL Total Access Kickoff aired from outside NRG Stadium tonight at 6:00 PM ET on NFL Network, with host Rich Eisen and analysts Marshall Faulk, Michael Irvin and Steve Mariucci providing pregame analysis leading up to Colts-Texans on Thursday Night Football.

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt Interview with CBS’ Bill Cowher

CBS’ Bill Cowher sat down with Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt for an interview on NFL Total Access Kickoff:

On what he sees when he watches film of himself:

“He sees the flaws…I see missed sacks. I see missed tackles. I see maybe my hand placement wasn’t proper here; maybe my footwork was off here. When I’m watching film and I’m clicking through, I go pass a pick-six real quick.”

On what he would have done differently last week against the Cowboys when he nearly sacked Tony Romo:

“I would have made the play. That’s one of those that I did think about for a long time. I went for the big hit instead of going for the sure thing. He gets paid money too. He made a great play.”

On where the Texans are right now as a team:

“Right now we’re in a good place in the way that we can put a win behind us just as well as we can put a loss behind us. We can move on to one game and focus on the task at hand. We had a tough loss on Sunday – we know that – but we come into a Thursday game knowing that we have a chance to win a divisional game in our home building and get started on the right foot in this division. That’s a big deal.”

Indianapolis Colts – Houston Texans Pregame Quotes:

“He is what a number one pick and franchise quarterback looks like. Period.” – Marshall Faulk on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck

“When you can make players around you better with your physical ability and with your mental ability which is leading them – getting them to believe that they can get more out of themselves than what they ever thought – you’re doing something. I love this kid.” – Marshall Faulk on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck

“Most of the time you get a superior athlete and he’s so self-consumed [and] worried about him. Then you get guys that are a little less talented and really know how to try to help make everybody else play well. This guy is the combination: he’s the superior athlete that understands how to lead. So often we use that word and that term and attach it to a quarterback by position. We use the word and force him to be a leader – this dude makes the choice to be a leader.” – Michael Irvin on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck

“A lot of times when you see people getting all the hype, it fizzles out. This guy has matched all the hype he had coming into this league.” – Michael Irvin on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck

“He’s a quick study, he can learn fast and he’s winning. That’s the most important thing right now. Will he carry a team on his shoulders by himself? No, he’s not that kind of guy. He has to have a run game. He has to have a defense. As long as this guy keeps winning, I think this guy’s going to be the starter.” – Steve Mariucci on the Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick

“He’s the next Reggie White because he’s that guy [where] you can line him up anywhere. He can dominate a position. He can be so disruptive. He’s a really special player.” – Bill Cowher on Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt

“I would tend to say Reggie Wayne because I think he’s more of a route runner than Andre Johnson, but Andre Johnson is a Hall of Famer. That’s a tough one.” – Deion Sanders on who would be the harder wide receiver to cover: Reggie Wayne or Andre Johnson

“Every athlete in the world wants the title that Andre Johnson has and it is: that kid is a freak.” – Michael Irvin on Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson

“This guy to me is going to be a Hall of Famer because of his versatility.” – Steve Mariucci on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne

“Andre Johnson goes off tonight. He gets his first touchdown, his second touchdown and maybe even his third all in one game.” – Michael Irvin on Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson

Quick Quotes:

“[It’s] masterful how they alter a game plan to use what they have now. He’s just a masterful, masterful coach.” – Michael Irvin on New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick

“This is Bill Belichick. This is what he does. We’re going to win football games however we need to win football games and he doesn’t care what people have to say about it. The points put up against Cincinnati, they sent a message to a young team about if you want to win, if you want to be here, you have to come through us.” – Marshall Faulk on New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
