Week 5 NFL Preview

The first quarter of the NFL season is over and 24 of the league’s 32 teams (75 percent) are currently either in first place or within a game of the top spot in the division. But there’s a lot of season left to be played.

There are only two unbeaten teams remaining – Arizona (3-0) and Cincinnati (3-0).

And all 32 teams know there’s room for improvement. And, while not every club has gotten off to a hot start, nothing is a given in the NFL.

Since 1990, when the current 12-team playoff format was adopted, 106 teams (36.8 percent of the 288 playoff clubs) have advanced to the postseason after starting the season 2-2 or worse. There were six such teams – Carolina (1-3), Cincinnati (2-2), Green Bay (2-2), Philadelphia (1-3), San Diego (2-2) and San Francisco (2-2) – last season, including four division winners (Panthers, Bengals, Packers and Eagles).

‘Warren Moon: A Football Life’ Premieres Friday, October 3 at 9:00 PM ET on NFL Network

The Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback was told he could not play the position by Arizona State, had to play at the junior college level before leading the University of Washington to a Rose Bowl victory, and had to play six seasons in the Canadian Football League before making it to the NFL.
