Teams have “double the control” with franchise and transition tags in uncapped season

Charles Chandler of the Charlotte Observer talks about how an uncapped year would impact the Panthers in a January 31 story.

Chandler writes that barring unexpected progress, the league appears headed to an uncapped 2010 season, which would dramatically impact the free agency signing period beginning in March.

“In the uncapped scenario,” Chandler wrote, “teams have double the control… with the ability to use a franchise and transition tag, allowing them to protect two players if they choose.”
